2015년에 닉 케이브의 아들이 사고사한 후 16년에 나온 앨범이 Skeleton Tree다. 그 수록곡인 이 곡을 처음 들었을 때 가사에 상관 없이 무너져내렸다. 15년의 Sufjan Stevens의 Carrie and Lowell, 17년의 Mount Eerie의 A Crow Looked at Me 같이 가족의 상실에 대한 앨범을 개인적으로 감명 깊게 들었는데 이 앨범은 앞서 거론한 두 앨범의 담담함을 가지면서도 장엄하게 몰아친다. 위로와 상실감을 동시에 느끼게 해주는 음악이다.

어린 시절부터 5개의 보기 중 정답을 고르고 주관식 문제마저도 머릿 속에 베껴놓은 것들 중 하나를 골라서 쓰는 식의 교육을 받은 아이들은 자라서도 그런 식의 정답을 찾게 되는걸까. 누가 몇가지 보기를 주고 그 중에서 하나 골라!라고 할 때 마음에 안정이 생기는걸까. 그 외에는 답이 없는 것처럼 생각해버리면 마음이 편해지는걸까. 모두가 괴롭게 살아가도 그 보기 몇 개 중 하나가 나라면 안전한걸까. 정답은 없는 것이고 그저 마음을 따라가면 모두들 조금씩은 가볍고 후련한 마음일텐데 왜 다들 괜히 무겁게 살면서 서로 짐이 가벼워보인다고 손가락질하는지 모르겠다.  이미 그렇게 사는 법을 배우기엔 너무 늦었단 생각이 들면 사회가 암담해진다. 주어진 것들 중에 딱 정답인 하나를 고르는 삶은 생활이다. 모두가 같은 것을 고르면 결국 영악하고 목소리 큰 놈이 갖게되겠지.

200224 아주 솔직해지기 올해는 어떻게 왔는지도 모르겠다. 그저 12/32처럼 1월이 왔고 이런저런 잡념에 끌려다니다 보니까 2월도 끝나간다. 그다지 춥지도 않았고 딱히 안 좋은 일도 없었건만 안 좋은 시기라고 느껴졌다. 아주 잘 맞던 사람과 잠시 시간을 갖기로 하였는데 그래서 나는 계속 몸을 놀린다. 밥도 열심히 먹고, 기타도 자주 치고, 노래도 계속 듣는다. 쿡쿡 찌르듯이 그 사람의 표정이나 말들이 떠오른다. 취향도 잘 맞고 아주 좋은 사람이라는 생각이 들었는데 일이 이렇게 되버린 것이 마음이 아프다. 카톡은 중요한 연락도 안 오길래 나머지는 답을 하지 않았다. 누구와도 말하고 싶지 않고, 웃을 자신이 없다. 연기하듯이 살아간다는 생각이 들어서 이렇게 그래도 누가 볼 수 있는 곳에 글을 써보기로 하였다. 매일은 아니더라도, 일주일에 3번 정도는 이 곳에 글을 써보고 싶다. 음악이든, 내 생각이든 아무거나 쓸 것이다.  어제는 이사 온지 1년 만에 방정리를 하고 방구조를 조금 바꿨다. 넓어진 공간과 잘 들어오는 햇살이 잠시 기분이 좋았다. 방치해둔 CD 플레이어도 연결해서 Girls의 앨범을 들었다. 어릴 때는 방 꾸미기를 좋아했다. 어릴 때 자주 보던 디즈니 채널에 나오는 아이들 방처럼 꾸미고 싶었다. 예쁜 곰돌이 푸 램프도 사고, 오래된 이불을 캐노피처럼 선반에 꽂아두어 그 안에서 새벽 2시까지 라디오를 듣고는 했다. 나는 그 안에 있을 때 가장 설레었고 행복했던 것 같다. 중고등학교 가고, 다른 집으로 이사를 가면서 모든 흥미가 식어버린 것 같다. 어릴 적 받은 편지들과, 모아둔 추억의 물건들을 보니 마음이 조금 넉넉해졌다. 발견한 버즈를 찾아서 책장 선반 위에 올려두었다. 우디도 있었는데 어디 갔는지 모르겠다. 잊고 있었던 내가 좋아하고 과분하게 아끼던 것들을 보니 내가 어떤 사람이었는지 조금 알 것 같기도 했다. 사실 지금은 나를 잘 모르겠다.  작년부터 낯선 음악을 찾아서 듣는다. 정확히는 제작년부터인 듯 하다. 스페인어, 불어
